Rock Bands Named After A Place

New York Dolls: Formed during the glam rock era of the early seventies. Considered one of the originators of punk music.

Boston: This band from Boston formed by guitarist Tom Scholz (who was born in Toledo, Ohio) had the biggest selling debut album in history.

Chicago: The second biggest charting American band of all time (only the Beach Boys are bigger).


Europe: Named after the entire continent, but actually from Sweden. They had two top ten hits in the U.S. during the late 80's.

Asia: A super group formed in 1981, made up of former members of the Bungles, Yes and Emerson Lake And Palmer. None of the members are actually from Asia.

Toronto: A Canadian group whose female lead singer is named Holly Woods. This band wrote and recorded "What About Love", a song that would later become a top ten hit for rock group Heart.

Kansas: Biggest hits were "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind".

Goldie Hawn & Oliver Hudson: Oliver's sister is Kate Hudson, his father is Bill Hudson of the Hudson Bros. and his step father is Kurt Russell. That's what you call a star studded family.

Stella Stevens & Andrew Stevens: Mom Stella posed for Playboy, son Andrew became a film producer.

Patty Duke & Sean Astin: Patty Duke Portrayed Helen Keller in the "The Miracle Worker" and son Sean is most famous as one of the hobbits from "The Lord Of The Rings" Trilogy.

Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz Jr.: Desi Jr. and his sister Lucie are best known for playing their mother's  children (what else) on the TV series "The Lucy Show" and "Here's Lucy".


Gena Rowlands & Nick Cassavetes: Nick's father was actor / director John Cassavetes. He's followed in his dad's footsteps by directing the films "John Q", "Alpha Dog" and "The Notebook" (Which co-starred his mother).

Rosemary Clooney & Miguel Ferrer: Miguel's father is Jose Ferrer, his cousin is George Clooney and his sister-in-law is singer Debbie Boone (Daughter Of Pat Boone).

Yoko Ono & Sean Lennon: Sean is the only child of Yoko and ex Beatle John Lennon.

 Famous People Whose Appearances Were Altered Later In Their Careers

Michael Jackson: Biggest musical superstar of the 80's and member of the Jackson 5, whose face seemed to change quit drastically from the 70's to the 2000's. He admitted to some cosmetic procedures but blamed the rest of the changes on puberty or weight loss among other things.

Montgomery Cliff: While filming the movie "Raintree County" Montgomery ran his car into a tree smashing up his face, which had to be rebuilt. He only made 17 films during his career, 8 with his original face, "Raintree County" in which some scenes has his old face and some his new face, and 8 more with his new rebuilt face.

Jennifer Grey: The "Dirty Dancing " star had a nose job in the early 90's which she felt "ruined her career" because no one recognized her anymore.

Joan Rivers: Popular comedian and TV host has had multiple cosmetic procedures starting as far back as the 1960's.

Mickey Rourke: Actor turned boxer turned actor again. Mickey supposedly had facial reconstructive surgery during the 90's to fix injuries he suffered from his time in the ring.

Lloyd Bridges & Jeff Bridges: Jeff got his acting start by appearing in his father's TV show "Sea Hunt".

Rosie O'Donnell: Comedian, actress and talk show host. Came out in 2002.

Richard Chamberlain: Became a heartthrob to millions of women as the star of TV's "Dr. Kildare" during the 1960's. Later in the 80's he was crowned king of the mini-series with "Shogun" 1980 and "The Thorn Birds" 1983. At the age of 69 wrote an autobiography revealing his homosexuality.

Rob Halford: Lead singer of the heavy metal band Judas Priest during the 70's and 80's. Came out publicly in 1998.


Tab Hunter: Another matinee idol of the 50's and 60's, who also announced his sexuality by writing an autobiography. Tab's book came out in 2005.

George Michael: Music superstar of the 80's and 90's, and former member of wham, admitted his homosexuality in 2007.

Jane Lynch: Became familiar to audiences due to movies like "Talladega Nights" and "Role Models" and the TV show "Two And A Half Men". Although she's been out the closet for years, most people probably learn she was gay after she became a star on the TV show "Glee".

Michael Stipe: The lead singer of REM has always been cryptic about his sexuality, but by the 2000's it was generally accepted that he was in a long term relationship with another man.

Jimi Hendrix: Guitarist. Chocked on his own vomit, Sept. 18, 1970.

Janis Joplin: Lead singer for Big Brother And The Holding Company. Died from a heroin overdose Oct. 4, 1970.

Jim Morrison: Lead Singer For The Doors. Died from heart failure on July 3, 1971.


Peter Ham: Member of the rock group Badfinger. Committed suicide on Apr. 24, 1975.

Teppi Hedren & Melanie Griffith: Tippi was a favorite of director Alfred Hitchcock, starring in the films "The Birds" 1963 and "Marnie" 1964. Melanie won a best actress nomination for the film "Working Girl" 1988.

Judy Garland & Liza Minelli: Liza accomplished something that her more famous and talented mother didn't. Win an oscar for best actress (Cabaret 1972).

Celebrities Who Were Shot

John Lennon:  Shot by crazed fan Mark David Chapman, outside his apartment building in New York City on December 8, 1980.

Tupac shakur:  After attending a Mike Tyson boxing match in Las Vegas on Sept. 7 1996, Tupac was a target of a drive by shooting. He was rushed to hospital and died six days later on Sept. 13 1996.

Biggie Smalls: Another victim of a drive by shooting. Biggie was shot while leaving a party in Los Angeles on March 9 1997.

Terry Kath (From the band Chicago): Accidentally shot himself in the head (he thought the gun was unloaded), on Jan. 23 1978. His last words allegedly were "don't worry, It's not Loaded".

Phil Hartman: Shot while sleeping on may 28th, 1998 by his wife, who later killed herself.

Johnnie Ace (singer): Shot himself in the head while backstage during a performance. It was believed that he was playing a game of russian roulette.

Rebecca Schaeffer (TV actress): Like John Lennon, Rebecca was murdered by an obsessed fan. She was shot July 18, 1989 Outside her apartment door.

Dimebag Darrell (heavy metal guitarist): A mad gunman opened fired during a concert by the metal group Damageplan on Dec. 8, 2004. Dimbag and three other people were killed. He was later buried in a Kiss Kasket along with Eddie Van Halen's original black and yellow stripped guitar.

Kurt Cobain: Committed suicide on Apr. 5, 1994. He killed himself with a shotgun.
